'ESSO NORWAY'.
On 24th August 1964 the steam tanker ‘Esso Norway’ suffered an engine room explosion, killing three crew members.  The resulting fire destroyed almost the entire aft accommodation area.  The crew abandoned the ship, taking to lifeboats and were rescued by HMS Anzio, a passing royal naval tank-landing vessel that took Norway under tow for a few days.  It was forced to release the tow due to heavy seas and Norway beached in a remote area of Muscat.
Don was on this ship at the time.  This is the story leading up to the explosion and afterwards...  Click below to read Don’s story.
